Is There Any Decent Golf Art Out There Today?
One of my other passions besides golf is art and like any good art lover I cannot seem to get enough (or often find enough) of it.
Not sure if it’s me but I get really sick and tired at looking at high resolution photos all the time. They are just everywhere and constantly clamoring for your attention.
But I love anything that looks illustrational (or done by hand) and has a warmer “look and feel” to it. It seems to be sorely missing from any golf artwork I have seen in a long, long time. Why is that?
All I see are big, dumb, photographic, layered Photoshop posters, brochures, collateral, etc. If there is a niche to be filled it has to be good golf art (can be illustrational, or really any style) like Anthony Ravielli’s.
So, do me a favor, if you see any good quality golf artwork PLEASE send it my way, either via this blog or via Twitter @golfdash
I will include a few vintage art posters I found. Lot of these come from the style of Japanese woodblock prints and were incorporated into the work of Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Monet, Degas, Gauguin and others. It would be the basis for the movement now known as Art Nouveau.

I agree with your comment about there not being much good golf art out there.
You might go onto http://www.artofgolf.com. I find Steve Sunenblick’s work different, striking and professional.
Would be interested in your comments.
Hey Doug. I agree to an extent. I enjoy paintings and illustrations because they become an artists point of view of the game. The artist can translate his/her mood or feeling about a certain course into any image. I personally like that, but I also want to defend the side of good golf photography. Good golf photography help to take a person to that moment in time without an entire reinterpretation. Personally, I was sick of seeing golf photos printed out, matted and slapped in a frame. It’s boring. I’ve started gallery wrapping historic golf photos on canvas. Which is a completely different way to present photography and I was hoping to merge my vintage golf images and modern artwork. Take a look and give your opinion. http://www.augustagolfphotos.com
