Here is a proven distance tip that Long Drive Champ Sean Fister says can add an easy 20 yards to your drives. Are you willing to give it a try?
“There are a hundred little tricks to hit the ball farther. But only one is absolutely, positively guaranteed to work for every golfer. All you do is turn your shoulders farther, all the while keeping the butt end of the club as far away from your sternum as possible. It takes practice and physical effort, but if you work hard at that for 2 weeks, you’ll for sure pick up 20 yards with the driver.”
For me the tough part is the physical part. Not everybody can easily (that’s the key – easily) get into that position. Of course, not everyone has the wingswan of someone like Michael Phelps or Belgian Bomber, Nicolas Colsaert. The physical dimension is huge.
But what you can do is work on your flexibility. This becomes more and more important the more you advance in age. I just turned 50 this year and spend at least 20 minutes in the morning doing Yoga to keep good flexibility in my body (and mind!). So you have to make that investment consistently. Doesn’t have to be a lot of time, just has to be regular.
As a matter of fact, the last book I listed in the recommended books below is called, “Spiral Up Yoga” and it advocates 5 minutes per day. Just 5 bloody minutes. Of course, you can do more. It’s really a great concept (even though it it’s non golf specific). I practice Yoga regularly but even so, I got a ton out of this well written new book.
Bottom line, golf fitness is not just about golf, it’s about quality of life.
I’ve listed a few of my favorite books that I return to again and again (besides the new Spiral Up I just received). All these will definitely help you achieve more flexibility and more stored up power. Who knows? 20 yards maybe just the beginning?
