Firestone Pick – Not Tiger
If there’s one thing that MIGHT get Tiger going again, it is for enough people to say he’s finished. Of course he’ll win again if he keeps playing. More than likely he’ll win a major. What he won’t do is win 5 majors to beat Jack’s record.
18 months ago I bemoaned the fact that there weren’t any young golfers to challenge the older dogs like Tiger and Phil. 18 months later that has all changed. We are seeing an emergence of a pack of youngsters who all have the skills to win big events. Their strength isn’t the game of any one player, it’s that there are so many of them. It’s seems a new guy like Oosthuizen bursts on the scene every other tournament these days. If Louis hadn’t won the Open, Rory McIlroy was right behind, especially if he hadn’t hit the weather wall on Friday. There’s now a growing legion of players who can easily put it together for any 4 given days. Really good just isn’t enough anymore to win a Major, you have to be clicking on every cylinder.
What’s more, these young kids aren’t intimidated by Tiger. They’ve never had the beat down that players like Els, Goosen and Singh have taken. They don’t cringe when they see Tiger on the leaderboard. There response is more ‘So What’.
Tiger’s game and confidence just aren’t there yet to win this week at Firestone. With enough Tiger-bashers like myself we just might make him mad enough to crush the field, but don’t count on it.

Tiger just isn’t Tiger these days. He has been pressing and hasn’t found his game. It’s not his swing that is the problem. He has lost his focus and his confidence.
You are right, I doubt that he will be able to come back to win 5 majors to over take Jack.
