Phil Being Phil

PhilMickelson Phil Being Phil If you live in New England you know what the phrase ‘Manny being Manny’ means. It refers to the predictably unpredictable behavior of Manny Ramirez when he was with the Boston Red Sox. The PGA Tour now has it’s own Manny in Phil Mickelson.

You just can’t expect a ‘normal’ win from Phil anymore. Maybe we never could. If Tiger Woods is up 4 on Sunday morning you expect he’ll win by 8. With Phil, who knows anymore. He might win by 8 but he also might launch one over the stands and lose in his personal version of the Three Stooges.

Last week at Riviera is a perfect example. Who wins a tournament by one stroke and shoots rounds of 63-72-62-72? Only Phil Mickelson. Apparently after Friday’s blowup, he had Butch Harmon fly in and make a key adjustment. It lasted for Saturday, but by Sunday he was out of tune again. Somehow he got it together for the last three holes. I have to give it to him, that was impressive based on how he was playing. Phil’s like an Alpha Spider, with a week in the shop for every week on the road.

I’m not going to try and predict anything for Phil. No matter what he does, it will just be ‘Phil Being Phil’ from now on.
