Golfing In Scotland During Hard Times
Given the state of the global economy, can anyone justify a golf trip to Scotland now? My answer - I HOPE SO as my wife and I are going to give it a try. We’re strictly middle-class, so why would we even consider such a thing given our retirement is shrinking like a wool sweater in the dryer.
I’m going to try and explain our logic at the risk you’ll decide we’re numskulls. The upside – we could be tasting scotch and playing some of the best and most historic golf courses in the world in a month. In the interest of honest reporting, we haven’t purchased the tickets yet, but that should happen in a day or two. So we still have maybe 48 hours to come to our senses.
Here’s how we arrived at our decision. We’ve considered a lot of golf trips this spring and have backed off every one, some for good reasons and others for nothing I can really remember. Money is certainly an issue, but if we’re going to spend it, why not spend it on something memorable. For me, nothing could be more memorable than Scotland because of the quality of the courses and the HISTORY. Think for a moment, the courses and the game were crafted together. If you really want to understand the soul of the game you have to travel to its birthplace. We even considered Wales, Ireland and England but always came back to ‘this is where it began’.
My next blog entry I’ll take you through the 5 reasons that really convinced me that – Now’s The Time To Go!
