I talked before on how much I am a fan of golf sunglasses to improve your golf performance (and even created a podcast on it).
However, the trick is sometimes finding the pair that best suits your game, typical weather conditions, style, and other needs.
Where to start? Well, we want to cover some initial bases before we start looking to style. Obviously for golf you want to protect your eyes from harmful UV Rays and get general protection from wind, pollen and other debris floating in the air.
UV Radiation is nothing to fool around with. Depending whether your UV radiation is shorter or longer term, you might experience a kind of “sunburn-of-the-eye.”
This can result is red, itchy eyes, a feeling of grittiness in the eyes and increased sensitivity to light. The good news is that this is usually temporary and rarely causes permanent damage to your eyes.
However, longer term exposure can be quite serious. Research has shown that regular exposure over a period of many years increases your chances of developing cataracts and further may cause damage to your retina, the nerve-rich lining of the eye that allows us to see.
I know, that sounds like dire stuff but it DOES make the point on how important it is to protect (and care) for our eyes and it simply starts with awareness and implementing some preventative measures.
It also has a couple really tint guides. I’ve never really “seen” these before (or maybe I have??) but they give some good information on what what tints are best in different conditions. Strange, I thought it was more personal preference but take a look—you might be surprised.
Finally, recommendations are given for the “Top 5 Best Sunglasses for Golf.” Of course, it’s just a list but it does go into detail on WHY it’s on the list. I happen to own the first pair, Oakley Men’s Flak Jacket XLJ Golf Sunglasses, so maybe I’m a bit biased but I love these. They’re light, stylish and fit perfectly. However, please check out the other recommendations, too.
Bottomline, they’re all solid choices but the main thing is to really think about caring for eyes as we head into the heart of summer. You only have one set of eyes so please take care of them.
