The End of the Golf Season

winter storm The End of the Golf Season

Well, this is what we here in New England (Massachusetts, anyway) woke up to this morning. A big snowstorm! Yuk.

So it seems like only a few short weeks ago that I was playing the Crumpin Fox club below. My, how the weather shows it’s many faces here in the North.

fox the 8th The End of the Golf SeasonThis time of year golf seems to exist in some distant land. The clubs are packed away, the golfshoes tossed in the closet and all my tees, markers and divot repair items are in a bowl on the dresser.

They won’t be touched for another 3 months or so. I used to carry my clubs in my car for a good part of the winter just because I did not want to believe the winter was actually here so fast. But now, I know better. They have been unceremoniously put away a number of weeks ago.

I have never lived in a climate where there are not stark changes of the seasons so I am not really sure what that is like. I don’t know if we who play in places that have full seasons appreciate the game more but we should.

There are such long, drab days with no color that when the Masters burst upon the scene in April, with all it’s color, promise and anticipation of glorious golf shots and low scores for the new golf season, the appreciation of the sport and beauty of golf starts again.

Winter time in the northeast is definitely difficult for golfers. I can’t wait for the season to officially start up again in April. In the meantime I try to use the time off to make the type of swing changes that I find more difficult to make during the regular season.

I have a number of training aids I use and I plan out what I’m trying to accomplish in the winter.
