Finally! The Masters, Sergio and Tiger
The most important ‘Finally’ is Augusta National admitting women, in particular Condoleezza Rice and Darla Moore. It should have been done a long time ago for the Masters to be a sanctioned PGA event, but when someone finally gets it right it’s no time to dredge up the past. It’s an important symbolic gesture for women and, maybe more importantly, girls everywhere. Way to go Billy Payne and Augusta’s membership!
Finally, Sergio Garcia is playing like we knew he could. Here’s another case where we’re better off not drudging up the past. Yes, Sergio acted like a spoiled kid for awhile, but he has an energy and flair for the game that seems to only come from the Spanish. He’s acting like a grownup now and his game, especially putting, is starting to shine. Sergio at his best makes every tournament he’s in a lot more exciting.
The last ‘Finally’ is Tiger smiling and acting like he’s having fun while playing a tournament. It’s always been the steely stare and glare when he’s in the zone. Typically, he hardly acknowledges his playing partners let alone the crowd. Then, two days ago on Friday at the Barclay’s while playing with Rory and Zach he’s acting like he’s out with his buddies just having a grand old time playing 18 holes and even laughing! I think the key ingredient was Rory. For whatever reason they seem to have a real bond. Maybe Tiger finally sees another golfer with the superhuman talents with which he can identify. I, for one, hope it continues. There’s something inspiring about seeing a happy Tiger. Maybe because it shows us that golf can be fun, even when the best in the world are playing for big bucks and Major titles!

Aaron, I feel the same way, however, after Saturday and Sunday (again), it looks like he has some work to do on his game. His short game is not as sharp as it used to be. Now the TV commentators are questioning his mental state. He sure isn’t the old Tiger we used to love to watch!
It was only a matter of time before Augusta finally allowed women, for the better no question. I think Sergio Garcia playing well is great for the game. He adds that something different to professional golf.
Tiger is improving but still a bit to go. Playing a lot more golf with Rory would definitely help his cause. Would love to see those to guys playing together a lot more often.
I know Rory has been winning everything recently, or at least it seems from the press he gets, but I am a die hard Tiger fan and I would like to see him win. It is fun to watch Tiger smiling. It makes you like him that much more.
I totally agree. It’s like a new Tiger who is letting down his facade and letting some joy into his game. It’s funny, what if he was just as successful without that invented, non-approacheable persona he created? Maybe he would have won more. Look at Rory. He seems like a totally cool, accessible pro who’s already won 2 majors. So who’s to say. What it comes down to is: talent, hard work and preparation.
