If you’re a golf fan, then normally what used to be ‘silly season’ has been great this year. The Fed Ex Cup playoffs are actually exciting. Tomorrow, my main focus, other than rebuilding my kitchen, will be switching back and forth between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Eastlake. (If anyone has plumbing skills they want to demonstrate feel free to stop by, there’s a cold one waiting for you!)
Can you believe the greens at Eastlake? If they’re not perfect then I don’t know what is. If this is the future of golf, then I’m not sure that’s how I want to finish my playing days. What happened to greens with brown spots and bumps and breaks that aren’t perfect? At least on those you can blame something other than yourself for a miss.
Dotty Pepper is a terrific analyst. She does a great job following the players showing insight and respect. Dotty missed a read on one of Tiger’s putts, but mostly she’s right on the money. And she actually gets that you have to talk in a wisper if you want the viewers to think you’re standing next to the player making the shot.
If I could putt like Brandt Snedeker -, I’d rule the world! Perhaps I exaggerate, but this guy is so good I’m going to start jabbing every putt. Who needs a smooth rhythm back and through – just toss your putt like you’re throwing a dart. Why not try it, I will, and ,be honest, do you have any better ideas?
Rory McIlroy is the NEW Tiger. Have you seen his power and the ability to hit outrageous shots at just the right moment? He plays just like Tiger in his early 20’s. He’s good in every phase of the game. If he really gets going in any ONE area on Sunday, it’s OVER- he wins sprinting away from the field – just like Tiger used to do.
Tiger’s going to learn to win from behind one of these days and when that happens we may see the beginning of a new chapter in his career. He’s given himself a lot of chances this year and I’m convinced he’s going to figure it out. Tiger’s 14 Majors have come from in front. How many can he win coming from behind? If Tiger wins the Fed Ex Cup tomorrow from 4 back then Look Out!
If you haven’t noticed, Tiger is definitely back. His only real weakness ( I know he lost some drives big time!) is putting now that his short game has started to sparkle. Just watching, you can see he’s not confident in the 3 – 8 foot range. Tiger, like most of us, probably needs to trust his swing more and put missing completely out of his mind.
Sunday could be better golf drama than anything we’ve seen this year AND – are you ready – next week might even be better! The 2012 Ryder Cup could be one for the record books! I think the Europeans have the better team on paper, but the Americans will have home course advantage, which does matter. With the changes in how the teams are selected, we really get to see the best players duke it out. With a little bit of collusion between the captains, the match ups could be sensational!
