'Once upon a time Tiger was a great story, and now he's just a great golfer, and that makes all the difference. Whether you root for him or not.'
Above are the last two sentences in a piece I found in today's Providence Journal sports pages. It was written by a guy named Bill Reynolds. Personally, I wish he wrote for the editorial page as his opinions are always well thought out, clearly written and not dogmatic.
I highly recommend you read the piece yourself (
click here). However you feel about Tiger or golf it will get you thinking about the sport you love.
I've got some good news / bad news for you. Practice can make you a better golfer. In fact practice can make you a great golfer. Unfortunately, even amateurs who do practice don't get much out of it. Where did I get this brilliant analysis from? John Paul Newport's 'Golf Journal' in the weekend edition of The Wall Street Journal. Read the article for yourself
here.
Mr. Newport gets his information from two recent business books; "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell and "Talent Overrated" by Geoff Colvin. Here's the bottom line: scientific study shows that most all prodigies have a couple of things in common - starting at a very early age (think 2 years old ...
If you follow the European PGA, you know that Rory McIlroy is the real deal. This kid, yes kid, is only 19 years old but plays and acts like he's 30. Mark O'Meara has said his game at 19 is better than Tiger's was at the same age. That's not an exaggeration.
Do yourself a favor today, and tune in to the World Match Play Championships and watch Rory. He's won his first two matches in fine style. His game is rock solid and he plays with the grace and maturity of a much older player. You're in for a treat whether he wins or loses. And, believe me, you'll want to be able to say you saw the beginning of his career 10 years from ...
We are looking forward to amazing 2009 filled with all sorts of new surprises. We hope to have you along for the ride.
In the meantime, both John and I sincerely wish you and yours a warm, safe and happy holiday season!

PS: We hope you receive all sorts of cool golf stuff from Santa. If you don't, watch our blog closely as we will be introducing more and more phenomenal "deals" in the coming months :-)
Here in Western Massachusetts we have been getting pounded by snow storms. First a foot on Friday and now another storm today.
My office is a short 15 minutes or so from the house and I just snapped the pic above looking out the window. Golf seems light years away.
I have to admit I have just LOVED my iPhone since I received it last Christmas. In my opinion there is nothing that comes close to it today. Apple just knows HOW to create beautifully effectives interfaces.
Up until recently I have not done too much with the App Store but since *discovering" it I have found a world of coolness - of course, not *everything* is cool but there sure are some gems (just ask my wife about "muddled"!)
One of these is Sports Tap (dubbed the ultimate mobile sports portal). It is an amazingly simple app that allows you to quickly "tap ...

When you talk about the Pro Tour, the big question in the back of the room is always what Tiger will emerge when he returns from his ACL repair. Will it be the guy who's dominated the tour for years or maybe someone different?
Tiger will certainly know how to play his game. If he's committed - which he always has been - he'll come back as strong or stronger than he ever was. Maybe it won't last for a lot of years - let's not forget all the speculation about how many surgeries to the same knee can someone have before ...
This really has nothing to do with golf but just loved the article. And seeing that today is Halloween and there are a horde of trick or treaters on the street below my office I thought I would post it.
It has received 368 "Diggs" so someone is digging it too.
Check it out - it is pretty dead-on for the crappiest Halloween candy.
Here is the intro to the article:
"Every Halloween the youngsters' thoughts turn to candy. And minor acts of vandalism. But mostly candy.
But there was always a downside to trick or treating, and not just the juvenile diabetes that kicked in a few ...
These guys look like the last foursome I played with! See what golf can do to you.
Getting pretty chilly here in the Northeast (Massachusetts) and it is sort of a weird feeling when Halloween comes because my days are VERY limited on the golf course this year (and they have predicted a very long winter - yessh)
Actually just received another Alpha Hybrid and have not even had a chance to hit it yet ;-(
Anyways, enjoy this all Hallows Eve and (please) leave some candy for the kids!
I just came across this ad the other day. Obviously it is a few years old. It seemed so bizarre it kinda caught my attention. I mean parachutes on golf balls? It actually sounds stupid and cool at the same time.
Of course, there are all sorts of golf ball training aids that restrict the flight of balls today from plastic to foam to those crappy little whiffle golf balls. I shouldn't talk, I use them too - but they sure don't last that long.
I tried to do some research on Google on these "Parachute Golf Balls" and really came up with not much so if you find anything ...
