Ping G10 3 Wood Review

Ping G10 3 wood at 14 degrees is a nice compliment to their line of hybrids. It has a nice middle of the road trajectory between the traditional 'strong' and 'weak' 3 woods. It's easy to swing and allows the golfer to maneuver the ball if he has the skill.

LongDriveForum.com is Back!

John and I launched the LongDriveForum.com a few months back but it ended up being riddled with technical difficulties and the whole forum board had to be scrapped (along with all the messages!) So it is now being revived due to popular demand. The Forum is dedicated to increasing your power, distance and accuracy. It is not *just* meant to be for world class long drivers only but also for the ordinary chap who REALLY wants to figure out how to get those 20+ extra yards on his/her drive and hit the ball squarely and accurately with that pro-like "thud" sound with his/her irons. Sweet! A lot of forums include every golf ...

10 Worthwhile Things to Do During the US Open Rain Delay

Ok, so we have to do *something* during the (very likely) upcoming rain delays at Bethpage Black. So here are a few (hopefully) worthwhile ideas to consider.. 1. Listen to a TED speech online - As the title says, "Riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world" - I cannot think of a better way to spend a few free moments than by listening to one of these amazing talks. I just listened to one by John Wooden, the former esteemed UCLA college basketball coach (just search for John Wooden) He is in his nineties in this is talk and as sharp as a tack. Check them out here at ...

Little Known Bethpage Black Facts

* Only walking is permitted * The Black is one of five 18-hole courses at Bethpage State Park, the largest public golf facility in the country. * Robert Moses, president of the Long Island State Park Commission, brought in A.W. Tillinghast to design the courses, although parks superintendent Joe Burbeck is credited as the architect, with Tillinghast as the consultant. * Bethpage State Park was developed from an estate owned by the Yoakum family and other properties. The Yoakum family leased their estate to the Lenox Hills Corporation which subsequently used the property to build the Lenox Hills Country Club. * In the early 1930s, the Bethpage Park Authority purchased the Lenox Hills Country Club ...

Big Fat Putter Grips – Do They Work?

Since we got the big screen hi-def TV, I watch a lot more pro tournaments. It's hard not to when the technology makes you feel like you're right there on the course. This year I've noticed more pros using 'larger than normal' grips on their putters. Always looking for something new and eager to know what works and what doesn't, I had to try one out for myself. On Sunday I went to the local Golfers Warehouse and found a Winn Excel Giant Putter Grip....

Memorial Skins Game & Other Thoughts

I had a chance to view the new feature of the Memorial Tournament this week - the Wednesday Skins Game. I'm not sure whose idea it was, but I think it's terrific. The PGA Tour needs to make our relationship with the pros more personal or tournament golf becomes too sterile and monotone. Golf is about camaraderie and friendly competition, which is just what the Skins Game was all about. Not all the guys were completely relaxed, but they were a lot more accessible than they are during their official rounds. I loved hearing the banter, the same stuff that most of us will recognize from our own matches. Pro golf needs more of ...

Golf In Palm Springs: An Unforgettable Experience

Not long ago I and several friends took a golf vacation to Palm Springs, California and now I am itching to get back. Plans are in motion. If you have never been to Palm Springs your really missing something. It has some of the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen. It was really stunning to see the desert landscape below as we flew into Palm Springs International Airport. We ended up going during the slow season (September) and it was VERY hot (over 100 F) but not uncomfortable (at least for me anyway) as it is dry heat. You just need to make sure to rink plenty of water. We also ...

The Guaranteed Tip to Give You Another 20 Yards!

OK, OK, here it is (the promised tip from Long Drive Champ Sean Fister to add an easy 20 yards to your drives)Says Fister, "There are a hundred little tricks to hit the ball farther. But only one is absolutely, positively guaranteed to work for every golfer. All you do is turn your shoulders farther, all the while keeping the butt end of the club as far away from your sternum as possible. It takes practice and physical effort, but if you work hard at that for 2 weeks, you'll for sure pick up 20 yards with the driver." There you have it. Comments please.

Parachute Golf Balls Continued!

Recently I received a reply to an article I wrote a number of months ago called, "Wackiest Training Aid: Parachute Golf Balls" I wanted to share it with you as it has some wonderful additional information about these "parachute golf balls" from our friend Doug who resides in Scotland from Antique Golf Clubs. REPLY BEGINS BELOW I happened across your piece on: Wackiest Training Aid: Parachute Golf Balls. Often in golf design (and particularly with golf balls) there are madcap ideas which appear and disappear without trace, never to be heard of again. Some which spring to mind are a radium-cored golf ball (in the late 1950s enthusiasm for all things 'nuclear'; a 1912 patent where ...
