Equipment
I know what you're thinking, if there was really 'A Way' to get better in golf, some guy or gal out there would be richer than Tiger. You couldn't build a practice facility big enough to hold all the people who'd be throwing money your way.
In spite of that reasoning, I do believe that major improvements for golfers are just around the corner. We, or at least the golfing scientists among us, are really starting to understand what goes on in the golf swing thanks to high tech analysis tools.
But it's going to take time for it all this knowledge to trickle down. New younger pros are going to have to ...
I'm a big fan of Tom Wishon. I think he is one of the smartest guys out there. I have a number of his books (he has written 9) including,
The Search for the Perfect Golf Club and
The Right Sticks: Equipment Myths That Could Wreck Your Golf Game. And I really love his simple, no B.S. delivery.
Here are just a few of his fans:
"A few years ago, Tom Wishon, with his experience as a designer, helped me understand more about a particular aspect of golf-club performance. With this book, Tom will help you understand ...
So I added a new section on our blog which I think is pretty cool. It's called the
GolfDash Hot List.
It actually aggregates all the "hottest" golf items being auctioned on Ebay. Really some fascinating stuff. I mean, check out the number of bids (and the amount of people watching)!
The auction changes continuously so be sure to check back often to see whats HOT.
Note: in interest of full disclosure I am NOT an Ebay affiliate and make nothing (that's right, zilch!) if you purchase something via this section. Who knows - maybe that will change in the future - and if it does you will be the first to know. ...
That's when I decided to go for the middle ground and try the Tiger Shark Ultra-Tac. You can see from the picture that it's a nice compromise between the two extremes. I get some wrist stabilization, but I can still release through impact. The middle size just feels better to me as well. The grip has a nice tacky feel, just like the traditional Ping grips which I like very much.
Ping G10 3 wood at 14 degrees is a nice compliment to their line of hybrids. It has a nice middle of the road trajectory between the traditional 'strong' and 'weak' 3 woods. It's easy to swing and allows the golfer to maneuver the ball if he has the skill.
My good friend Mike over at
Travellinggolfer.com has a mighty excellent interview with Terry Koehler, aka
"The Wedge Guy"
If you have never heard Terry before your in for a real treat. Not only does he communicate in laymens terms so everyone can understand but this guy is sharp as a tack and really knows his equipment. You will definitely learn a few things.
I love interview posts and seeing that it is in audio form makes it very easy to listen to.
Here's a few things that caught my attention after listening:
The importance of using wedges and how to do it
How gripping down on your driver can result in some of ...
Where are all these hybrids you ask? In Tour players' bags, that's where.
I was reading Golf Week in the proshop this week where they did a really nice piece on how hybrids have taken off with Tour pros. The previous time the Open was at Bethpage there were only a handful of players carrying a hybrid. At this year's event, there were only a handful who didn't have one.
If you still have a hangup about hybrids you are missing one of the best game improvement clubs ever invented. You think they're for sissies. Don't even go there. Guess which tour player carried a six iron as his lowest traditional iron at the ...
Since we got the
big screen hi-def TV, I watch a lot more pro tournaments. It's hard not to when the technology makes you feel like you're right there on the course. This year I've noticed more pros using 'larger than normal' grips on their putters.
Always looking for something new and eager to know what works and what doesn't, I had to try one out for myself. On Sunday I went to the local Golfers Warehouse and found a
Winn Excel Giant Putter Grip....
I had a chance to view the new feature of the Memorial Tournament this week - the Wednesday Skins Game. I'm not sure whose idea it was, but I think it's terrific.
The PGA Tour needs to make our relationship with the pros more personal or tournament golf becomes too sterile and monotone.
Golf is about camaraderie and friendly competition, which is just what the Skins Game was all about.
Not all the guys were completely relaxed, but they were a lot more accessible than they are during their official rounds.
I loved hearing the banter, the same stuff that most of us will recognize from our own matches.
Pro golf needs more of ...

Doug's article two weeks ago about Tiger being too pumped up, really got me to thinking. Tiger is the most 'pumped up' guy on tour.
I don't think anyone would dispute that he's also the most pumped up guy who has ever been on tour. Has he finally reached the limits of more muscle equating to better golf?
I don't believe Tiger himself knows where the limits are. He's experimenting as he is wont to do. After all, muscles helped him dominate over the last 3 or 4 years so maybe he still believes 'more is better'.
But, if being pumped really ...
