I'll know fate has been exceptionally kind to me should I find myself once again on Cruden Bay's first tee.
Talk to private golf club owners and you'll see that many are having problems, namely not enough members to support their clubs. Why? Because their old members are dying off and are not being replaced by younger ones.
Add to this that there are lots of new courses being built every year, but the golf population is not growing. Every year as many golfers leave the game as take it up.
At some point in the past private golf was more affordable. Golfers got on waiting lists to get into the private clubs. When you've got waiting lists, free market thinking says you can go ahead and raise prices. Times have changed.
Now many ...
I have had a relationship with Sweden now going on 20 years. Actually, my GolfDash partner, John, was my boss way back then and sent me to Stockholm as kind of a "work exchange" program. Since that time I have made a number of good friends there and a few really close ones.
I would say I have been there now going on 7-8 different occasions - from when I was a young bachelor to bringing over my wife and family a few years back.
So I have always kept my eye on Swedish golf and there seem to be so many top golfers coming from such a tiny country whose population is ...
If you’re lucky enough to land tickets for a PGA Tour event, it is imperative that you practice proper spectator etiquette to ensure a relaxing, fun, and smooth experience. Then again you could head for the FBR Open at TPC Scottsdale which is loud, raucous and well, yes, drunk spectating at its best – and worst.
So at least try to:
Please be Quiet (Please!)
It is especially important to be quiet and stand still when a player is preparing and just about to make their swing. It is simply distracting for players who are trying to focus on their game. It is probably best to leave cell phones in the car or even ...

Hazeltine National Golf Club is located in Chaska, Minnesota.
- It is a private club and closed to guests not accompanied by a member.
- The course opened in 1962 with Robert Trent Jones as the course architect (after early designs by another architect)
- The course opened under the name Executive Golf Club of Minnesota, However, reception to the name was not favorable so it was renamed Hazeltine National Golf Club in honor of the adjoining Lake Hazeltine.
- Rich Beem won the championship by holding off a charging Tiger Woods, who birdied the last four holes. It was one of the most memorable finishes in championship history.
- The first championship hosted ...
Though Panama is a breathtaking Central American country that is known for its amazing weather and white sand beaches, many people go there for much more challenging reasons than just a relaxing vacation.
While
Panama hotels are elegant and comfortable, and there is more than enough sunshine to go around, many travelers also like to compete in rigorous golf tournaments to test their reflexes and skills.
Generally new to Panama, the sport of golf has caught on there like a wildfire, with millions of dollars spent to create and maintain a multitude of gorgeous golf courses. However, though there are various golf resorts and packages for beginners and intermediates, Panama is the ...
Five-times Open Champion Peter Thomson was the last professional to win three consecutive Open Championships (1954-56), a feat Padraig Harrington is attempting to emulate this year. Here, The Melbourne Tiger, who celebrates his 80th birthday in August, describes the Turnberry course and Harrington and Woods’ chances of claiming the Claret Jug.
The Open Championship returns to Turnberry this year. You played in the 1977 Open, which Tom Watson won – what are your memories of the course?
I played there in the British Matchplay Championships, I think in 1957, so I was very familiar with the place having had a lot of serious rounds there in the Championship. As ...
Kenny Perry is probably THE hottest golfer on the planet today. It really is amazing to think he is playing his best golf of his career into his late 40's.
It's a curious thing. I have heard him say before that nothing has really changed in his routine, workouts, etc. It's just "clicking" in a way it has not before.
Funny, that has happened to me on occasion. I have played really good golf for a few seasons, then, nothing. I hate to admit it but I am in one of those "valley" stages (as opposed to "Peaks") Oh well, that's life (and golf).
But back to Mr. Perry. I just love this guy. ...
Ok, so we have to do *something* during the (very likely) upcoming rain delays at Bethpage Black. So here are a few (hopefully) worthwhile ideas to consider..
1. Listen to a TED speech online - As the title says, "Riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world" - I cannot think of a better way to spend a few free moments than by listening to one of these amazing talks. I just listened to one by John Wooden, the former esteemed UCLA college basketball coach (just search for John Wooden) He is in his nineties in this is talk and as sharp as a tack. Check them out here at ...
