Hitting The Texas Golf Trail

If you haven't played golf in Texas you're missing out on courses that have been home to some of the best players on Tour.

Golf at the Elite Liberty National Golf Club

I found this article by Mike Palmer on Liberty National Golf Club and thought you might enjoy it. "When we hopped out of the golf cart on the second tee, we took in one of the most spectacular views on a golf course I've ever seen – the Statue of Liberty stood right behind the pin. Beyond that, the entire Manhattan skyline. That's when my friend, David Galland, turned to me and said: "It's just another sign that we're in the declining days of the Empire." You see, David's had a theory for years that America's extravagances and over-the-top spending are similar to what happened in Rome 1,600 years ago. It's hard to argue ...

Golfing the Fox

Anytime you play golf in November in New England you consider it an immense gift from the golf gods. And yesterday I and a few friends played the Crumpin Fox Golf Club on just about a glorious golf day as could be found (temps in lower 70's). You can see from some of the pics I included that there are not many leaves left on the trees - almost all have fallen. Just a bleak reminder of what's around the corner for us Northern folks - namely that white powdery stuff (and I'm not talking about drugs!) I DO love this course. It's ...

La Manga: Golfing Heaven in Southern Spain

So my brother is heading on a honeymoon in Spain. I am a wee bit jealous as Spain is, strangely, one of the few countries I have not visited in Europe - why, I'm not exactly sure. One of my favorites artists, Picasso, of course hails from Spain and my first stop would probably be the Museu Picasso in Barcelona . I have visited the Picasso Museum in Paris - and it was just fabulous. So besides the Picasso museum and a tour of the incredible Antoni Gaudi architecture in Barcelona -  I would HAVE to get in some golf. One destination that I have heard great things about from my ...

Gorgeous Golf Art from GolfSketch

As many of you know my other passion is art and I just love looking at it, producing it and writing about it and now creating DVDs on it. I actually recently completed an DVD called, An Introductory Guide to Oil Painting Tools and Supplies which was a ton of fun to create, script, shoot, edit and design packaging - yup, all by me. And when it comes to golf course art - there after seems to be a lot more bad than good. So I was quite surprised when I was made aware of a young golf course architect named ...

How About a Las Vegas Golf Holiday?

The plan is to head out to Vegas soon for a little gambling, R & R, golf and my wife HAS to see Barry Manilow so the trip is now in the queue. I have been to Vegas a number of times - mostly to trade shows with former companies I worked with. But I always loved the beauty, weather and energy of the place. I mean, in 10 minutes you can escape the hustle and bustle in be in the desert - not bad. I am looking to play a few courses while there including: TPC Las Vegas (see photo above): Here's the description: There's a reason TPC Las Vegas has ...

Cruden Bay – A Very Special Place

I'll know fate has been exceptionally kind to me should I find myself once again on Cruden Bay's first tee.

Save Golf, Let The Free Market Work

Talk to private golf club owners and you'll see that many are having problems, namely not enough members to support their clubs. Why? Because their old members are dying off and are not being replaced by younger ones. Add to this that there are lots of new courses being built every year, but the golf population is not growing. Every year as many golfers leave the game as take it up. At some point in the past private golf was more affordable. Golfers got on waiting lists to get into the private clubs. When you've got waiting lists, free market thinking says you can go ahead and raise prices. Times have changed. Now many ...

Golf in Sweden

I have had a relationship with Sweden now going on 20 years. Actually, my GolfDash partner, John, was my boss way back then and sent me to Stockholm as kind of a "work exchange" program. Since that time I have made a number of good friends there and a few really close ones. I would say I have been there now going on 7-8 different occasions - from when I was a young bachelor to bringing over my wife and family a few years back. So I have always kept my eye on Swedish golf and there seem to be so many top golfers coming from such a tiny country whose population is ...
